1:1 Model Making
Challenge
How might an iconic vehicle be reduced to its most essential elements while retaining a strong and provocative identity?
Developed as a collaborative university project in 2005, the concept explored minimalism not only as a visual language, but as the fundamental principle behind the vehicle’s construction and character.
Result
The 276 is a full-scale design study built around a folded metal structure, partially enclosed by two lightweight fibreglass body elements.
Its reduced architecture exposes the relationship between structure, function and form. The outer elements integrate the lighting and use a luminous finish that gives the vehicle a distinctive presence both during the day and in darkness.
Created over the course of one year by a multidisciplinary student team, the project resulted in a 1:1 model and a deliberately uncompromising vision of a pure driving machine.
The 276 was presented at the AMI Motor Show in Leipzig in 2006 and was later exhibited at the Prototyp Museum in Hamburg and the Museum Industriekultur in Nuremberg.
